Day 2: Roncesvalles to Zubiri

Today’s stats: 14 miles/ 1300 ft elevation. Yesterday, we were still in Sunday hike mode racing ahead of the pack. It seemed we were the only people walking the Camino until we were having our post hike beer at the pub and started seeing other pilgrims trickling in.

Today, we kept a more moderate pace and got to enjoy being a part of the pilgrimage. It’s such a pleasure having the opportunity to talk to people from all over the world. It never ceases to amaze me how many people are genuinely interested in conversations with strangers. But stopping to smell the roses is not the only change I am experiencing. It is day 2 and my perspective has evolved and with it has come dramatic change in behavior. Yes, I am enjoying my journey to the simple life and becoming a minimalist: 2 sets of clothes (the one I wear and the one my super champ of a husband washes for me every night), no makeup nor any hair products, and rustic accommodations.

But perhaps the biggest change in my Camino life is embracing what I cannot change - ordering food and eating everything with no questions asked and without my usual long list of requests (you know what I am talking about if you ever asked me how I drink my coffee...) Well, my friends, learning to go with the flow and live in the moment is liberating. Buen Camino!
