Day 13: Burgos - Hornillos del Camino

Today’s stats: 13 miles/900 ft elevation. Today we started the 2nd leg of the Camino - the Meseta.

The number of pilgrims has dwindled. Many avoid the Meseta, catching the bus from Burgos to Leon and skipping this section of the Camino, the flat plains of central Spain.

I can see why some people find the monotone landscape boring, but on day 1 of walking the meseta, I found it very relaxing. This time of year, the fields are green, and the spring flowers make it alive with color. I believe there’s always beauty to be found if we stop, breathe and observe. To us, it’s also part of the experience. If we skip any part, we wouldn’t be walking the Camino.

Since there’s nothing much to do in Hornillos, we went back to spend our evening in Burgos. I found my inspiration today from the statue of an old couple resting on a bench. To me, this pair represents expressing love to its fullest. I want to grow old with my husband and wish to continue to look at the world and see love and beauty. And just perhaps if maybe, when I am less active and more patient, I will finally improve my knitting skills beyond simple scarves and blankets to be a good knitter like the old woman. Buen Camino!
