Day 17: Carrión de Los Condes - Ledigos
Today’s stats: 14.5 miles/500 ft elevation. And we are under 400km to Santiago.
Meseta Day 5 - still monotonous & hot.
Today was supposed to be our longest stretch with no rest stops, about 10+ miles to the first village on our way to Ledigos. One of the great things about the Camino is that you don't need to carry any food or water because there are bars/restaurants every few kilometers to stop and refuel.
Knowing it wouldn’t be an option today, carrying water and some snacks for the day, I ended up with a heavier backpack than my normal 20 pounds. To add to the challenge, we were on a paved or dirt roads all day today - no alternate paths. And I am feeling it! I keep telling myself that soreness is a badge of honor.
To end the day on a positive note, the Alberge La Morena is delightful. Not only did we find a gift bag of shower products (a rare commodity) but for the first time in 17 days, we were treated to some fruit and chocolates in our room. I am a happy camper.
To make it a Super-Duper Day, in addition to the usual post-hike Radler, I had my first ever Toblerone Ice Cream Stick - chocolate with honey and almond nougat ice cream coated with milk chocolate with white nougat. It’s every bit as delicious as it sounds. Oh, the simple joy of eating ice cream. Buen Camino!
